A Torn Calf Muscle Will Force Bartoli to the Sidelines for Six Weeks
Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli will be sidelined for six weeks after tearing a calf muscle during her second-round match against Vesna Manasieva. Bartoli, who raced through her first-round match 6-0, 6-0, lost to Manasieva 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
“It felt like an explosion inside my muscle when I pushed off at one point,” Bartoli said. “After that, it was very complicated because I couldn't use my right leg.
“I can't take a plane now because it's too swollen. I have to stay here for three days.
AHHHHH ! Now the 3rd set bagle is explained. If it was not for bad luck Marion would have no luck at all. Just when she was putting good results together this happens. Get well soon Marion!

The big question that's vexing everyone is whether or not Marion will be fit to pay Dubai. I contacted the WTA today and they confirmed she is still on the list.

Thanks Jorn. I have just got back home from the Mainland Bartoli Makes Winning Return In Dubai DUBAI, UAE - World No.17 Marion Bartoli made a winning return to the WTA Monday night, edging Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm, 76(8) 64. Watch live tennis from Dubai all week on TennisTV.com! Bartoli made a strong start to the season, reaching the semifinals of Brisbane and the quarterfinals of Hobart, then winning her first round at the Australian Open, 60 60. She looked primed for another deep run into a Grand Slam. A right leg injury halted that momentum in the second round. "I probably had the toughest time so far in my career during that match and what happened after. I was playing really well in the tournaments before Melbourne, played really well in my first round there and then I was leading easily in the second round, and then everything fell apart. I didn't stop during the match, so it got worse. "I had to take a plane the next day in crutches. I couldn't walk at all for two weeks. My house is on four levels with three stairs so I couldn't climb the stairs. I had to stay on one level and watch TV the whole day and see the others play. "I tried to remain positive. I was going to the pool every day to stay in shape, keep my stamina and muscle tone in the other parts of my body. I started practicing again here four days ago... so I'm honestly really happy the way I handled everything tonight. It was the first time in my career I had a bad injury. "I'm still a bit rusty, but my calf is definitely 100%," the Frenchwoman added. Date-Krumm, who has scored numerous wins over Top 20 players since coming back to the WTA in 2008 - including a pair of Top 10 wins, over Dinara Safina and Samantha Stosur - held three set points in the first set breaker, at 6-4, 6-5 and 8-7. But Bartoli, the No.10 seed, was just too tough this time. "Kimiko is really tough to play against," Bartoli said. "She moves extremely well and hits the ball really flat. I thought I was hitting the ball pretty flat, but she hits it even flatter than me. You can't really hit winners against her. She can come back at any time, too. She beat a lot of great players last year." Bartoli has Tuesday off, and will spend it with someone very important - her father and coach, Walter. "Tomorrow is my dad's birthday. He's nice with me 364 days a year, so I'm going to try to be nice with him one day. "I'm sure I'll come up with a good idea. Maybe a nice watch or something. I'm a good girl, so don't worry. I'll have a nice present."
