Court 1 (from 10.30hrs) 1. ATP: Brands vs. Kubot 2. ATP: Berankis vs. Luczak (NB 12.00hrs) 3. Marion Bartoli vs. Vania King
King has faded in Singles last season and shone in Dubs. Marion should have too much in her bag for Vania too deal with. As always, its how they play on the day.

Cibulkova Into QFs, Bartoli Too JANUARY 05, 2011 AVERAGE RATING: 5 STARS
Read
BRISBANE, Australia - The second round came to a close at the Brisbane International on Wednesday afternoon, with Marion Bartoli making it to the quarterfinals - unlike all her fellow Top 4 seeds at the $220,000 event.
After No.3 seed Nadia Petrova's first round exit and the second round departures of No.1 seed Samantha Stosur and No.2 seed Shahar Peer, Bartoli - seeded No.4 - was left the favorite for the title, and she kept going with a win over Iveta Benesova, 61 36 60. Bartoli blew through the final set in 24 minutes; she has now won her last five matches against left-handers.
Other winners included Dominika Cibulkova, who closed out Roberta Vinci, 62 75; Petra Kvitova, who rallied back to beat Ksenia Pervak, 16 64 62; and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, who beat Australia's Sally Peers, 64 61.
In an intriguing match between one of the WTA's most promising rising stars, Andrea Petkovic, and one of its most accomplished former stars working her way back up the ranks, Jelena Dokic, it was all Petkovic. The German outduelled the Australian from all areas, scoring a 60 61 win in just 46 minutes.
"I don't like making excuses but when you play a Top 35 player, you have to play great from the first point, and I didn't," Dokic said. "I felt like my first match was good here so I take a lot of confidence from that, but I've got a lot of work to do. There's still some time before my next tournament in Sydney."
No.5 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Lucie Safarova and Jarmila Groth all made the final eight Tuesday. All four quarterfinals take the court Thursday.

Bartoli Blitzes Safina January 10, 2011 Average rating: 5 stars
HOBART, Australia - Top seed Marion Bartoli routed Dinara Safina in the first round of the Hobart International on Monday night, the world No.17 proving too match tough for the former world No.1 as she romped to a 60 61 win.
But Bartoli - who reached the semis in Brisbane last week and went into today's match with a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Russian - felt the scoreline wasn't an accurate reflection of the match. Even so, Bartoli's consistency off the ground was clear in her 55 percent success rate off Safina's first serve, which the Russian made a very respectable 71 percent of the time.
"It's not like she played badly," said the Frenchwoman. "Some games were really tight and went my way but the scoreline could have been much tighter... I thought it was really a Top 15 match, and it wasn't only my level, she was playing really well."
Of her own form in the 91-minute encounter, she added: "It's my first time in Tasmania, I didn't have time to acclimatize... it's my first time playing in these kind of conditions. The most important thing was my level and I really played well."
The two seeds right behind Bartoli, No.2 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and No.3 Tsvetana Pironkova, both lost their openers, however. After conceding the first set by a 62 scoreline, Pavlyuchenkova retired against Bethanie Mattek-Sands with a hip flexor injury, while Pironkova was beaten by in-form Peng Shuai, 26 63 62.
But No.5 seed Klara Zakopalova dismissed Melanie Oudin, 63 76(3) and the highest-ranked Australian in the field, sixth-seeded Jarmila Groth, moved confidently past Johanna Larsson, 61 63.
In the second round Bartoli faces Elena Vesnina, who earlier in the day beat Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja, 62 61. British No.1 Elena Baltacha also advanced, as did Alla Kudryavtseva and three of the event's four qualifiers: Olga Govortsova, Tamira Paszek and Alberta Brianti.
The wildcard contingent was less productive, with Aussie teens Sally Peers and Olivia Rogowska stumbling, but veteran Alicia Molik notching a classy win over Sofia Arvidsson. (The victory marks Molik's first at tour level since the first round of Wimbledon last year.) Next up for Molik, who turns 30 later in the month, is No.7 seed Sara Errani.

Just a wee bit concerned about the heavy conditions, so I hope Marion doen't make heavy weather of it. But I don't think so. Straight sets Marion 62 and 60, something like that.
