I see the BBC's tennis "pundits" have decided who will be in the Final's. In the womens its Sharapova, The Williams and Ivanovic in any order. Not a thought about last years finalist from France. Clearly "the surprise finalist" is no given a glimmer of hope in making it 2 in a row. We'll see

Bartoli battles breeze to win Wednesday, 25 June 2008 Written by Adam Lincoln
Bartoli eyes prize
A spirited Marion Bartoli, runner-up to Venus Williams at The Championships last year, overcame a second set slump to defeat Tatiana Perebiynis in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
In the first set, the 11th seeded Frenchwoman’s biggest challenge was posed by the conditions, as both players struggled to find rhythm on breezy Court 11. Indeed, across the match just 50 per cent of her first serves would hit the mark.
Perebiynis enjoyed better success on her delivery – 70 per cent – but struggled to convert that record to actual points won. However, midway through the second set, the Ukrainian’s perseverance with the sliced backhand drop shot began to pay dividend, as she exploited the double-fisted Bartoli’s limited reach off both wings.
Upon breaking Bartoli for 3-2, the 27-year-old world number 67 held serve with another drop shot and lobbed the net-bound Bartoli to secure a second break.
However, presented with a chance to serve for the set, the Ukrainian’s guile deserted her, only to be replaced by meek play. While Bartoli, 23, remained vulnerable on the stretch, her greater weight of shot began to tell as the rallies wore on. Perebiynis’s resolve hardened as the set grew tighter, but it would not be enough to halt a five-game winning streak by the Frenchwoman.
Bartoli advances to a third round meeting with Bethanie Mattek of the United States, herself a straight-sets victor over Vera Dushevina of Russia.

Both Alice and I were at this match, me at one end of Court 11 and Alice at the other. We met up after the game to discuss how the match went BTW Alice is a "Charmer" and it was great to meet her So we were not close enough to touch Marion, but close enough to see exactly how Marion looked and moved. 1. Marion is not over-weight or carrying "Excess baggage." 2. She is moving very well on Grass. 3. At 2-5 in the second set, the lady next to me said Bartoli will have to do better in the 3rd. My reply was " Its not over yet. And Back she came! Serve and volley, chip'n charge, Marion mixed it up. But killed Tati off with deep wide serves and returns. Alice and I agree that Marion's drop in form was due to the Viral infection she picked up earlier in the year. They are writing Federer off already, and he like other players contracted a virus. So, its Bethanie Mattek next. Tied at 1 - 1 2005 CINCINNATI HARD (O) R32 B. MATTEK 1-6 6-4 7-6(0) 2006 BIRMINGHAM GRASS (O) R32 M. BARTOLI 4-6 6-4 6-4 Good luck MArion! Allez!!

Mattek ends Bartoli repeat hopes Bartoli has struggled with injuries this season Marion Bartoli's bid to repeat last year's unlikely run to women's singles final at Wimbledon was ended in the third round by Bethanie Mattek. The French 11th seed, hit by injuries and poor form since losing to Venus Williams last July, was beaten 6-4 6-1. At one stage during the first set, when she was 5-4 down, Bartoli called for a trainer to treat a stiff shoulder. Mattek, 23, ranked 69th in the world, has never previously gone beyond the second round of any grand slam event.

Marion wasnt her best self in this match. Her serve was weak, and movement around the court lethargic. Not getting a racquet to balls that on a good day she can. The fact that Marion is still to win three matches consecutively this season, shows Marion has had many health issues this season. Mattek has been playing well recently. But on a like for like basis Marion is a better grasscourt player than Bethanie Mattek. Lastly, I agree with Jim in terms of physique Marion outwardly looks in awesome condition. To say she is overweight is absurd. It's fascism! She clearly has worked on building her shoulder area as the look quite square.
