Preview
Marion is the Top Seed here, last years Champion Nadia Petrova elected not to defend her title.
The field is not that strong Ranking wise, and if Marion is healthy and fired up for the tournament, she should win here. But I have said that so often in the past only to be thwarted in my predictions. All I will say is that there is no-one here than Marion cannot beat.
Aravane Rezai is present and the ill-tempered and petulant Barbora Zahlavova Strycova is perhaps the most dangerous, while Lucie Safarova shown recent good form but has dipped slightly towards the back end of the season.
Julia Goerges is another threat as is Sabine Lisicki. The latter has not done much since she took her 1st title, however these International tournaments are an ideal vehicle for kick starting a player back to form.
Ol Gal Jill Craybas can still make life hard for the best of them, as can Karolina Sprem.
So, lets hope Marion has recovered from injury and is ready for the fray once more.

Lisicki is just coming back from a long injury lay off.
Lucie is last years finalist, and I think other the other person (Rezai), Lucie is the best player in the tournament after Marion and Rezai.
Heather Watson is a fantastic prospect and I hope she gets through to the main draw. Look what she did to Canadian No.1 Wozniquack at Eastbourne.
Its a fast court in Quebec, so will favor Marion who won the title in 2006.

Bartoli Headlines in Québec City
SEPTEMBER 12, 2010
QUÉBEC CITY, Canada - There's a more-than-usually French flavor to the Bell Challenge this year with France's Top 20 stars, Marion Bartoli and Aravane Rezai, headlining the $220,000 indoor event - one of just eight International-level tournaments remaining on the 2010 schedule.
Bartoli, champion here in 2006, and Rezai, who is making her event debut, met in the final of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali last year. While Rezai's title run at Bastad leaves her well placed to secure a berth in the eight-woman field this November, Bartoli, without a title so far this season, surely views Québec City as a key opportunity to book her place.
Neither Frenchwoman justified her seeding at last fortnight's US Open - both exited in the second round - so they'll be keen to get back to their winning ways. So too will Czech lefty Lucie Safarova, who lost a tough three-setter in last year's final here, and is back as the No.3 seed.
Another Czech, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, is seeded fourth and after a tough summer US star Melanie Oudin looks to rebuild as the No.5 seed. Julia Goerges, a semifinalist here 12 months ago and a recent first-time Tour titlist at Bad Gastein, returns as the No.6 seed. Olga Govortsova of Belarus is No.7 and Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson, runner-up to Amy Frazier here in 2005, rounds out the seedings at No.8.
Wildcards have been awarded to Canadians Valérie Tétreault, Heidi El Tabakh and Rebecca Marino, who made such an impression against Venus Williams at the US Open. Unfortunately for local fans and the players themselves, Tabakh and Marino bump into each other first round, with the winner possibly meeting Bartoli in the second. Still, it's a great opportunity for both, who will also join forces in the doubles.
Others to watch for include surging Swede Johanna Larsson, resurgent Croat Mirjana Lucic - who plays Sorana Cirstea in the first round - and young Americans Christina McHale and Alison Riske, who've both enjoyed noteworthy results in recent months. Aussie veteran Alicia Molik is in the mix as well.
The doubles event is topped by Bethanie Mattek-Sands, the singles runner-up here two years ago, and Zahlavova Strycova. Last year Zahlavova Strycova won the title with Vania King.

Bartoli, Safarova advance at Quebec tennis (AFP) – 16 hours ago QUEBEC CITY, Canada — Top seed Marion Bartoli breezed past her French compatriot Stephanie Foretz Gacon 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round of the WTA Bell Challenge tournament. Bartoli advances to face Canadian wild card Rebecca Morino in the second round. Bartoli on Tuesday needed just 58 minutes to oust Foretz in dominating fashion. She hammered four aces and won 84 percent of her first serve points. She also saved six of seven break points compared to just one of seven for her opponent. In other matches involving seeded players Tuesday, fifth seeded American Melanie Oudin beat Alison Riske 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) and third seed Lucie Safarova stopped Varvara Lepchenko 7-5, 6-3. French second seed Aravance Rezai lost to Jill Craybas of the US 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7/3) in the biggest upset of the day. Oudin, who lost in the second round of the just completed US Open, won 80 percent of her first-serve points and 65 percent of her second-serve points. Oudin was only broken once, while breaking Riske's serve three times.

Marino Serves Up Bartoli Upset
SEPTEMBER 15, 2010
QUÉBEC CITY, Canada - Two weeks ago she made a strong impression while losing to Venus Williams on Arthur Ashe Stadium, but now on Court Bell she made another strong impression and ended up with the win. Rebecca Marino continued to put herself at the forefront of the future of Canadian tennis on Wednesday, stunning No.1 seed Marion Bartoli at the Bell Challenge.
Marino, who qualified for her first Grand Slam at the US Open and made it to the second round before losing to seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams in a tight two-setter, never lost her serve and broke the No.14-ranked Bartoli four times en route to a 63 61 win in front of her home crowd. She fired a whopping 10 aces in the match, including three in the first game - a daunting message.
"This was one of the best matches of my life," Marino said. "She's the highest-ranked player I've ever beaten. I want to be playing at this level, competing against - and winning - against these players. I have put a lot of work in and maybe this is a reward for that. I can't relax though - I want to go further here."
Marino is just the second Canadian in the last 10 years to beat a Top 15 player (excluding retirements). Aleksandra Wozniak, who couldn't play here due to a wrist injury, has done it four times in her own blossoming career.
Bartoli, who won this title the last time she came here in 2006, was impressed. "Rebecca gave me absolutely no chance," she said. "If she plays like that every day she can be Top 20, Top 10 even. I felt she could put the ball wherever she wanted to and I had no chance to win the match with her playing like that. She served well; there was so much pressure for me to hold my serve."
Refreshing to hear such honesty. Maybe this will drive Marion on with greater determination to do well in the Far East.

Not a disaster...$220k! I'd rather see her do well in Japan and China than Quebec anyway.
