(6) Amélie Mauresmo (FRA) 64 64MoMo is an elegant player, and the closest to the only serve/volleyer on the tour. But I think she returned from surgery too soon. Marion being the French #1 might not sit too well with her either.

Wimbledon finalist confirmed for Eastbourne Following Amelie Mauresmo and Lindsay Davenport last week, Marion Bartoli, the 2007 Wimbledon runner-up, has confirmed she will play at the International Women’s Open in Eastbourne.Bartoli is currently No 11 in the world rankings and No 31 in the singles race. Born in France, the 23 year-old burst onto the scene last summer by reaching the final at Wimbledon defeating a host of top players on route. In 2006, the right-hander, who is double-handed on both sides, picked up three WTA titles in Auckland, Tokyo and Quebec City. Bartoli will be making her fifth straight appearance at the International Women’s Open with her best performance coming last year. In 2007, the Geneva resident defeated the No 4 seed, Elena Dementieva, in the last eight before losing to the world No 1, Justine Henin, in the semi-final. Gavin Fletcher, International Women’s Open Tournament Director, said: “Marion is a world class player who has a proven track record on grass. Having a player of her stature confirmed to play in Eastbourne is a great boost. The International Women’s Open is once again attracting the world’s best players with this year shaping up to have one of the strongest fields yet.”

Bartoli Leads the Seeds in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, UK - Last year's Wimbledon breakout star Marion Bartoli will make her much-awaited 2008 grass court debut at the $200,000 DFS Classic this week, coming off a somewhat disappointing start to the year but hoping to find her best footing on the slick lawns of the Edgbaston Priory Club. Last year at the All-England Club she made a shocking run to the final, beating - among others - Shahar Peer, Jelena Jankovic and Justine Henin, among others, finishing runner-up to Venus Williams. This week the No.10-ranked Frenchwoman holds the top seed and, after a first round bye, will play her opening match in the second round against either Yuan Meng of China or Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic.
Bartoli's biggest competition on paper comes in the form of Nicole Vaidisova, given Dinara Safina - who was to be the No.2 seed - was forced to withdraw due to a low back injury. Vaidisova, the No.3 seed this week, comes in having lost six straight matches; but like Bartoli, grass may just be the key to her regaining her top form as she had an excellent showing on it last year, reaching quarterfinals at both Eastbourne and Wimbledon. After a first round bye, the Czech teenager will kick off her campaign against one of two talented Frenchwomen, either Nathalie Dechy or Severine Brémond.
